It is not necessary to hire a company to lay the lawn edging. The installation is not particularly complicated and can therefore be done very well without any special expertise. First, mark the intended course of the lawn edging with a straightedge that you stretch between wooden stakes driven into the ground. For curved or round borders, you can use a garden hose instead and simply lay it out on the ground as desired.
Now use a spade to dig out the soil along your mark, creating a narrow and sufficiently deep groove for inserting the lawn edging. Push the individual elements together so that they are the right length. Depending on the model, you can usually slide the individual parts over each other for this purpose or use an adjustable end element. Once the lawn edging has been inserted into the groove, you can carefully tap it into place with a rubber mallet and press the soil down.
Use a spirit level to check that your new edging is straight and make adjustments if necessary. If the soil in your garden is very loose or stony, or the area where you are laying the edging is particularly busy, it is advisable to use additional soil anchors to achieve sufficient stability.
